Nissan to Develop 2014 GT-R NISMO

Nissannismo

Nissan is expanding its performance arm: The automaker announced today that it plans to offer a NISMO version of the 2014 GT-R supercar. This is the third vehicle to launch under the NISMO brand; it follows the revised 370Z and new Juke NISMO versions that were unveiled at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.

Currently, the NISMO version of the 2013 370Z is expensive, adding $5,200 to the price of the Touring version of the coupe, but according to Nissan, that will change during the next year. The automaker plans to make the NISMO brand more affordable and accessible.

"For many would-be NISMO customers, the only way to experience a NISMO performance car has been through a game like Sony's Gran Turismo series. Now we can bring them into the family of Nissan owners with exciting, real NISMO cars created by a dedicated and experienced team that is fully linked to the digital world and well aware of what these new customers are looking for in a performance road car." Simon Sproule, Nissan's corporate vice president for marketing and communications, said in a statement.

Although the automaker confirmed that the 2014 GT-R is the next model to get the NISMO treatment, details are slim. Nissan has only announced that it will be available in dealerships next year. "We know that enthusiasts around the world will be itching to know more about the forthcoming GT-R NISMO. It's too early to share any details yet, but fans can be certain we'll be applying all of our motorsport expertise to creating a GT-R NISMO worthy of the name," NISMO President Shoichi Miyatani said in a statement.

As for the other recently introduced NISMO models, Nissan says the Juke gets around 100 performance modifications compared with the regular version and the 370Z has some exterior body modifications and interior trim additions.  The 2013 Nissan Juke NISMO will go on sale this summer and the 2014 370Z NISMO will be in dealerships this spring. No word yet on pricing for either of these cars.

Nissan LEAF reaches 50,000 units sold worldwide

Nissan

Best-selling electric car ever (so far)

While Tesla has just reached a production rate of 20,000 electric cars a year at its Californian plant, Nissan - despite some troubles - has reached an important milestone of its own: 50,000 Nissan LEAF electric cars have now been sold globally, making it the best-selling electric car of all time (so far).

These ±50,000 LEAF owners have together driven about 160 million electric miles so far (260 million kilometers), and one LEAF owner in Japan seems to be spending his life on the road and has already put 108,000 miles (175,000 kilometers) on his plug-in. Another LEAF driver in Spain has put 26,700 miles (43,000 kilometers) on his EV in a single year, showing that you can indeed go the distance in an electric vehicle.

One of the great things about electric vehicles is that they not only get better quickly as new generations of batteries and power electronics come out, but even existing EVs get more useful over time as more fast charging stations are built everywhere:

In the last 12 months Europe registered significant growth of the CHAdeMO quick charging infrastructure. The number of these chargers which allow batteries to be recharged from empty to 80% battery capacity in around 30 minutes has rocketed from 158 to 601 in the last 12 months. The plans already in place are to more than double by the end of this year the number of installed quick charging installations. These units are being installed at strategic locations such as shopping center car parks or highway service stations, allowing the 50,000 Nissan LEAF owners to push the electric vehicle revolution even further.

And this is just the beginning. The recent price cut should help increase sales, as will further incremental improvements.

At Long Last, A New Nissan Titan

Since Nissan debuted the Titan pickup in 2003, it hasn't really changed too much about its full-size rig. Why mess around with a good thing, right? But Nissan is ready to play catch-up, and said a redesign for the 10-year-old truck is in the works.
Slipping sales and a rash of redesigns from other full-size truck makers have lit the fire under the company's U.S.-focused rear end. When Nissan introduced the truck a decade ago, it sold 100,000 of them. Last year, that number was down to less than 22,000.

There's no word about what the new truck will look like or what features it will include, but going by what's hot on other models, it's likely to have a dash-mounted touchscreen, an array of fuel saving gadgets, and a massive grille. Those items, along with a leather seat offering, seem to have become the standard for America's large pickup market.

Ram debuted its redesigned full-size pickup line last year to general acclaim, and you'll remember that the new Ram was supposed to be the new Titan, but the Carpocalypse resulted in Fiat purchasing Chrysler which resulted in the Nissan-to-Chrysler carswap getting cancelled. Ford and GM are poised to do the same this year, and Toyota's new Tundra will premier this week at the Chicago Auto Show. Not to be outdone, Nissan has vowed that it will unveil a redesigned 2015 Titan sometime next year. Stay tuned.

2013 Nissan Sentra is the perfect choice for economic buyers

The newly redesigned Nissan Sentra has truly grown up, with a bit of help from the aesthetics of its Altima cousin and some serious specs from rival brands. These upgrades should make the 2013 Sentra the perfect economic option for hungry car customers.

Nissan Sentra Trims and Features Review
The Nissan Sentra is a small five seat sedan that’s offered in S, SV, SR, and SL trim levels, along with fuel saving FE+S and FE+SV models. The latter two options come with a rear spoiler, aero deflectors, and low-rolling resistance tires. Every trim comes with a four-cylinder engine worth 130 horsepower, and Eco, Sport, and Normal drive modes that help produce either 33 or 34 combined MPG (the base manual Sentra achieves 30 combined MPG).

Things have been expanded inside to the delight, and comfort, of both driver and passengers. Standard features include basics like power accessories, A/C, and cloth seats, though upper trims can be decked out in wood and leather trim, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, Nissan Connect infotainment with navigation, and Bose audio.
The 2013 Nissan Sentra starts at $15,990.

How Nissan Sentra Does on Performance
The front-wheel drive Sentra is powered by a 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine that produces 130 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. The base S Sentra comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, though an Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is available. All other trims get the CVT as standard. Drivers can choose between Eco, Normal, and Sport modes to help control efficiency and performance, depending on need.

Nissan Sentra Fuel Economy
EPA estimates give the manually driven 2013 Sentra 27/36/30 (city/highway/combined) MPG; CVT equipped models get bumped up to 30/39/33. FE+s and FE+SV models receive 34 combined MPG.

Nissan Sentra Interior Highlights
Part of Nissan’s quest for the new Sentra was improving driver and passenger friendliness, and they’ve achieved this by adding welcoming space and versatility up front, along with extra room for backseat passengers. If you are relegated to the second row, you’ll get 37.4 inches of legroom. Trunk space measures an impressive 15.1 cubic feet.

If you choose, you can build an upscale atmosphere by adding wood and heated leather seating to the quiet cabin. Nissan Connect offers hands-free texting and voice commands for hands-off control, and the 5.8 inch touchscreen is also within easy reach for the more traditional among us.

Nissan Sentra Safety Features
Standard on every 2013 Sentra are four-wheel antilock brakes (front disc, rear drum) with brake assist, stability and traction control, and full-length side curtain airbags. SR and SL trims also get a rear disc brake option. The Navigation package comes with a rearview camera, and upper trims get an Easy-Fill Tire Alert system that lets you know the tires are properly inflated.

Nissan Sentra Summary & Overall Review
Nissan has given shoppers what they crave – upscale features at an economical price, good fuel economy, and enough new tech to show off to friends and family. The 2013 Nissan Sentra is back, and it’s better than you think.
