One Million “Turn On” to the Nissan LEAF

Nissan

The Big Turn On, Nissan's ambitious on-line campaign designed to get one million people ‘turned on' to electric vehicles, has hit its target ahead of time.

The initial plan was to reach the one million mark in 100 days... but the campaign has so captured the imagination of the public that the milestone was reached on Thursday 21st June, 15 days ahead of schedule.

"We are delighted to have hit one million ‘turn ons' ahead of schedule," said Paul Willcox, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Nissan in Europe. "It shows that more and more people are realising that cars like Nissan LEAF are a real alternative. While Nissan might have reached its target early, The Big Turn On will continue to spread the word about the 100% electric LEAF."

As well as encouraging car drivers from France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK to consider the benefits of zero-emission driving, the campaign is also showing that the Nissan LEAF is incredibly safe, environmentally friendly and economical to run, with the range between charges being easily sufficient for the vast majority of daily trips.

At the end of the campaign, the city with the most drivers turned on to electric vehicles will be given 30 Nissan Quick Chargers, while the individual who encourages the most people to turn on will win a Nissan LEAF.

These CHAdeMO standard Quick Chargers are among 400 that Nissan plans to donate to cities across Europe by the end of FY2012 to speed up infrastructure development. The batteries in the Nissan LEAF, and other compliant vehicles, can be "refuelled" by these chargers to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes making significantly longer journeys possible. The first Nissan Quick Chargers have already been installed in the Netherlands and France.

Taking part in The Big Turn On is as easy as clicking a computer mouse on the dedicated website - thebigturnon.com/ - via social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook, or by taking a test drive in a Nissan LEAF.

NISSAN: Hello to Almera

Nissan

NISSAN will introduce a new model to its passenger car range this August with the arrival of the Almera. The entry-level light sedan offers strong value, attractive exterior design and exceptional interior space.

The Thai-built Almera is based on the Nissan V platform which is also the basis for the Micra hatch.

As such you could describe the car as the Micra sedan.

Like the Micra the Almera is likely to come with 1.2 and 1.5 litre four cylinder engines, although the 1.2 might be dropped for the larger car. The engine will be paired with a five speed manual or CVT style automatic.

Almera shares a new Nissan global design direction with the new Pulsar and Altima models, both recently unveiled at the Beijing and New York Auto shows.

“With Pulsar sedan and hatch and the all-new Altima set to reach Australia in 2013, Nissan is strengthening its range as we seek to reach our target of becoming the number one importer in the Australian car market,” Nissan Australia boss Bill Peffer said.

Further details including pricing will be confirmed at the Almera launch on August.

Nissan Leaf holds value better than Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius

Nissan

If you drive a Nissan Leaf and aren't completely satisfied with it, now'd be a pretty good time to sell.

That's the conclusion of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), whose most recent guide indicated that the battery-electric Leaf holds 95 percent of its value after a year, according to Automotive News.

By comparison, a Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in holds 90 percent of its value and a Toyota Prius hybrid holds 88 percent of its value, the publication said. In real terms, though, the Prius comes off looking like a better value because the Leaf and Volt numbers subtract the $7,500 federal tax incentive to get the "new car" price.

Either way, Volt and Leaf values are expected to fall a bit later this year because rental car companies that bought them new will start selling them back into the used-car market, giving the supply chain a big boost.

In the first four months of 2012, Nissan sold 2,103 Leafs in the U.S., twice as many as it did a year earlier. Nissan, which sold about 9,700 Leafs in the U.S. in all of last year, is set to release May sales figures later today.

All-New, 38 MPG 2013 Nissan Altima Heads to Showrooms

Nissan1

FRANKLIN, Tenn., June 7, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The all-new 2013 Nissan Altima, the first of five all-new models Nissan will introduce in the next 15 months, is on the way to dealers as of yesterday, the same day Nissan began production at its second U.S. assembly plant in Canton, Miss. By the end of this year, both plants will operate three shifts each to maximize production of the country's second best-selling car.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has also just certified the 2013 Nissan Altima as the most fuel-efficient gasoline mid-size car in America, with ratings of 27 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined. The 4-cylinder Altima, with a standard 18-gallon fuel tank, is capable of going up to 684 miles on a single tank of fuel - one of the best of any gasoline-only automobiles in America.

"This is a huge day for the Nissan brand as we ramp up production and begin shipping the new, fuel-efficient Altimas to our dealers," said Bill Krueger, vice chairman, Nissan Americas. "The new Altima is a game-changer for the mid-size market and our dealers can't wait to share it with our customers."

The release of the new Altima comes in advance of the vehicle's official on-sale date of late June, allowing Nissan dealers the opportunity to conduct test drives with potential customers. Nissan has experienced unprecedented interest in the new model with 1.5 million individuals visiting a pre-order website created to deliver information about the new car and gauge interest in early orders. More than 30,000 customers have expressed an interest in the car through the pre-order website, which also offers those placing an order a complimentary three-year scheduled maintenance program valued at $700 (see details on nissanusa.com).

The offer remains available on the site, www.nissanusa.com/all-new-altima through June. Prices for the 2013 Nissan Altima start at $21,500 USD.

When the all-new Altima sedans equipped with a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine and new Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission leave the assembly plants, they will carry a window sticker declaring the best-in-segment EPA fuel economy rating of 38 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway. The EPA fuel economy certification is as follows:

2.5-liter I-4 Altima EPA Fuel Economy:City - 27 mpg; Overall - 31 mpg; Highway - 38 mpg

In addition to its unprecedented fuel economy performance, Altima offers numerous segment exclusive attributes and Nissan signature innovations, including:

Ride comfort, control and fun-to-drive demeanor, including better 0 - 60 mph acceleration than other top-selling mid-size sedans as demonstrated in independent third party testing

Available Next-generation Safety Shield Technologies, including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Moving Object Detection (MOD) systems using an innovative single rear camera

Easy-Fill Tire Alert, which sounds the car horn to notify a person filling a tire with air when the tire reaches recommended tire pressure - no gauge needed

Headlights that automatically switch on when the windshield wipers are in use

Windshield wipers that park themselves off the windshield when the vehicle is turned off with the wipers on and in mid-cycle

Premium exterior styling with a powerful presence and improved aerodynamics

Upscale interior rivaling premium luxury sedans, including NASA-inspired "zero-gravity" seats, an Advanced Drive-Assist(TM) Display and BOSE® Premium Audio System

Standard Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system and Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®

Available NissanConnect(SM) and NissanConnect(SM) Navigation with a suite of Bluetooth® phone connectivity features, including hands-free text message integration, Pandora® playback, real-time Google® POI search and more

Advanced Drive-Assist(TM) Display with 4-inch color screen standard on every model, which is customizable, easy-to-use and integrates key information right in front of the driver

World-first multi-link rear suspension with connect bushings and Sachs damper to deliver outstanding handling

Active Understeer Control, which uses advanced electronic stability control algorithms to improve cornering and provide a more confident driving experience.

Usain Bolt and Nissan GT-R Team up for New Marketing Campaign

Nissan

Three time Olympic Gold Medal sprinter Usain Bolt and Nissan Motor Co. have joined forces for a new marketing campaign. Dubbed “WHAT IF” the campaign is designed to tantalize the senses, highlighting Nissan’s vehicles and technologies designed to “excite,” such as the GT-R supercar.

According to Bolt, the partnership seemed logical, since as the world’s fastest man, he already owns one of the world’s fastest cars – a Nissan GT-R. “The Nissan GT-R is a wonderful car and perfect for me. I love everything in it. I enjoy driving it, and I feel completely safe, and that is the key thing for me,” he said.

The new campaign is the first to emerge from Nissan’s new global marketing arm, that was given a brief last year to develop programs that accelerate Nissan brand awareness, as part of the firm’s Power 88 business plan.

“WHAT IF” will initially be visible at major international airports worldwide from June 1, with the goal of lasting several years, via continuously refreshed content. Nissan says that the campaign will also feature prominently online with shareable social media content and more in depth stories and features.
