New Nissan Tech to Prevent Against Pedal Misapplication

Nissan

To help reduce the potential of an accident happening caused by pedal misapplication, Nissan has developed an ‘Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication’ function for its vehicles.

The new technology will debut in the updated Nissan Elgrand MPV by the end of the year, aimed at reducing acceleration accidents in parking lots and other spaces where the vehicle could potentially collide with walls if the driver mistakenly pushes the wrong pedal.

By utilizing the four cameras of the Around View Monitor and ultrasonic sonar, the technology will detect if the vehicle is in a parking spot or any confined space and if there are any obstacles in the way of the vehicle. It will automatically control the acceleration if necessary, even applying the brakes before a collision can occur.

The new technology is part of the Japanese automaker’s ‘Vision Zero’ safety goal which aims to help eliminate deaths and serious injuries due to traffic accidents.
